Thoughts That Came to Surface During MY 4 Mile Run… Read at YOUR Own Risk.

THIS COULD BE A COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS STORY TO YOU… YOU MIGHT READ THIS AND WONDER WHY YOU WASTED 5 MINUTES OF YOUR VALUABLE LIFE READING THE THOUGHTS THAT TRAVELED THROUGH MY BRAIN TRAIN OR YOU MIGHT ALSO READ THIS AND EITHER LAUGH AT LEAST 2 TIMES or POSSIBLY LOOK AT SOMETHING IN LIFE WITH A DIFFERENT LENSE…… merrr ya seeeee..

I mean… this is the thought that went through my head as I was running… the full unedited story in my head during the 4 mile run was way more “legit” than what follows… what follows is just what I could recall from the deep thought. That’s why I love running. You can just listen to your favorite music, go exactly as fast or slow as you want to go or you are ready for, zone in a thought or zone out of a “bad day”… whatever your heart desires…

But here’s what was on my mind while running…

At a very young age we are taught to lie to one another. Hey, yeah if it’s “serious” then tell the truth but If you do not like someone’s shirt and they ask if you like the shirt you should “white lie” to them to make them feel better (in case they like the shirt) so you don’t hurt their feelings. Why would it matter if you did not like the shirt? Because peer pressure sucks… so if your friends don’t like the shirt then you can’t be confident in how you look in the shirt. So “only if you’re like besties” then it’s okay to tell someone you don’t like their shirt. But if you are besties and one bestie doesn’t tell the truth because they don’t want to hurt the other besties feelings then the bestie buying the shirt gets lied to and believes bestie #2 likes the shirt when really they do not like the shirt…

That probably only makes sense to people who understand where I’m coming from … so if you can’t relate then just skip that section and move on…

Businesses can cause people to lie as well. For example… yeah I’m going to get fired if my company finds out I’m partying with Molly at the club this weekend so I’m going to call in sick Monday in case I get fired for failing a drug test because I’m a liar and perform work for a company, disobey their rules, and can’t communicate freely with my fellow employees because well then I’ll get fired. Is it the business causing the person to lie because they have policies in place or are the people putting themselves in positions where they have to lie to keep their job? What I’m trying to get out is people either put themselves in positions to succeed or fail -OR- they are put in positions by their companies and end up in positions where they 1.) Either stand up for what they believe in and get fired (yes, I used a terrible example, but if person A believes in Molly at the club on weekend he or she should be working for a company where that is acceptable… why would they automatically position themselves in a work environment where they are forced to lie from the moment they walk in the door?

Like me for example… I got a job at McDonalds in college cause I knew they would hire me quick and easy and I would make some money… I have no passion for fast food, every day I went to work I was ashamed, HELL NO I’m not saying working at McDonald’s is shameful, don’t twist my words,  I was ashamed because I was collecting a paycheck for something I did not believe in. If you love McDonald’s, then promote it and work there, that’s cool… but I do not love McDonald’s, I do not promote it, and I will never return until they can serve me some real food. Not 100% real beef company product, I’m talking about REAL healthy food. I mean I have a dream that there will be easily accessible healthy fast food options… it may come true if enough people stand up for what should be considered “morally correct.”

Pretend interview with me and potential company…

Hello Kyle, we do not allow our employees to drink beer on the weekends.

“Hello… I’m Kyle, I would never drink beer on the weekends, I’m the man for you!”

Great, you are hired!

….. (obviously this is not how the conversation would work.. this is an example of how a wolf would get stuck with Hyenas, how eagles would get stuck with mice, and how sheep would get stuck with fish.

You see, by Kyle (the sheep) not standing up for what he believes in (beer on the weekends) and succumbing to the peer and social pressures of (I need money, I need this job for XYZ…) now Kyle (the sheep) , who likes beer on the weekends, is either going to be surrounded by other lying out their ass sheep (who drink beer on the weekends too) mixed in with others (the fish) who do not drink beer on the weekends, and the entire workplace is now toxic to each other. You now have “cliques” in the workplace with a bunch of lying going on everywhere.

My Imaginary Day in the Office…

This is completely make believe… I’m not an office manager, I have seen Office Space and THE office but I’ve never actually worked in an office. I mean, I might have been invited to the principal’s office about 30 times in Elementary thru Junior High, and while being in business for 5 years I ALMOST had an office for a few months but when we rebuilt the gym we decided against the office so now we just have a sweet desk in the middle of the gym….  I would lose my mind honestly (what’s left of it right…I have like 20% of my remaining brain cells according to some…) like school was pretty bad, I mean I hated school. But when I think of a day in the life of the office job I get frantic. Some of the stores I’ve heard from people talking about the day in the office make me wonder… I mean where is the “socially correct” boundary on speaking your mind about someone’s lifestyle? I focus all my time and energy on leading people to a healthy lifestyle (or my opinion on a healthy lifestyle) so if they are paying money to be apart of our community and be coached then is it acceptable to notice when someone HATES their job and they let it consume their every waking thought. I hate my boss, I hate my job, I hate the people I work with, I hate what I’m doing, but I want to spend 40+ hours here per week to collect a paycheck. Ummmm as their coach (crossfit and sports aside) as their coach who wants them to be the best version of themselves and help them reach their peak (how in the name of Babe Ruth would anyone reach their peak surrounded by the wrong pack of animals and lost without a paddle?)  Don’t be lost without a paddle. If you’re a wolf, find your wolfpack, if you’re an eagle, soar with other eagles, if you are lying to yourself or others you will end up lost with the wrong pack and you will be eaten alive.

I mean I’m not pulling an Office Space mentality and just saying up and leave your job if you don’t like it ( I mean, yes, that’s EXACTLY what I would do, because I do what I chose to do and I 99.9% of the time chose what makes me happy, and it just miraculously happens to be that the people I’m surrounded by daily typically have the same interests. Amazing how life works. It sucks if I make it suck, it’s awesome if I decide to make it awesome. Do as you please. Good luck gang!
